Fasting Guidelines

21 Days of Prayer & Fasting January 1 – 22

 

 Purpose

The goal for this 21 day period is to raise the intensity of our seeking, waiting on, and worshiping the LORD – with an expectation of receiving wisdom, direction, and an increase in spiritual strength and power.

We are observing a “Daniel Fast during this 21 days which will begin on Thursday, January 1st at 12:00pm, and end of Thursday January 22nd, at 12:00pm.  See link  for food selection guidelines.

Days 1-7 Guidelines

  • Spend an additional 60 minutes in prayer seeking God’s will, and wisdom
  • Limit your television, social media consumption, and casual internet browsing
  • Spend 15 minutes (daily) meditating on scripture where you desire to see God’s power manifested in your life
  • Guard your heart and mouth against and resist murmuring, complaining, and fault-finding
  • Give thanksgiving to God every day for answering your prayer and meeting your need

Days 8 -14 Guidelines

  • Spend an additional 75 minutes in prayer seeking God’s will and wisdom.
  • Limit your television, social media consumption, and casual internet browsing to 3 days per week
  • Continue 15 minutes (daily) of meditating on scripture where you desire to see God’s power manifested in your life
  • Continue to guard your heart and mouth against and resist murmuring, complaining, and fault-finding; and eliminate personal, emotional and relational negativity, strife, gossip, road-rage, self-criticism, frowning, bad attitude, anger/wrath, and pessimism.
  • Give thanksgiving to God every day for answering your prayer and meeting your need
  • Take at least one of these 7 days to spend quality time with spouse/spouse and children, family, loved one, or friend. Use this time to really build up, encourage and speak life in the other person(s)

Days 14 – 21 Guidelines

  • Spend an additional 90 minutes in prayer seeking God’s will and wisdom.
  • Limit your television consumption to 1 program. Eliminate social-media and internet browsing that is not truly work-related.
  • Spend 20 minutes (daily) meditating on scripture where you desire to see God’s power manifested in your life
  • Continue to guard your heart and mouth against and resist murmuring, complaining, and fault-finding; and eliminate personal, emotional and relational negativity, strife, gossip, road-rage, self-criticism, frowning, bad attitude, anger/wrath, and pessimism.
  • Give thanksgiving to God every day for answering your prayer and meeting your need
  • Take at least one of these 7 days to spend quality time with spouse/spouse and children, family, loved one, or friend. Use this time to really build up, encourage and speak life in the other person(s)
  • Give an act of kindness – whether small of big – to at least one person everyday of the last seven days.
